Compagnon is an eclectic, collaborative type family that fuses historical sensibility with bold, experimental character. Developed by a group of students and designers at EESAB-Rennes, it was conceived as a research-led, open-source response to the evolution of typewriter and transitional type forms resulting in a family that feels both reverent and refreshingly contemporary.

Styles

The family includes five expressive styles:

  • Light and Roman by Juliette Duhé & Léa Pradine
  • Italic by Valentin Papon
  • Medium by Sébastien Riollier
  • Script by Chloé Lozano Yegge

Each style explores a different dimension of typographic history and utility from the rationality of serif text faces to the monospaced rigidity of typewriting, culminating in a Script style that adds warmth, fluidity, and personal expression. The script variant in particular leans into a cursive, hand-drawn character, making it perfect for standout headlines, signage, or invitations that need a more human touch.

Design Ethos

Unified by their slightly offbeat curves and modular, remixable DNA, all five fonts reflect the team’s open-source ethos. Compagnon is ideal for projects that require personality, historical layering, or typographic storytelling especially in cultural, editorial, or web contexts.
